According to the Metro Manila Development Authroity’s Accident Reporting and Analysis System, 15,513 motorcycle crash-related incidents have been recorded from January to June of this year.

An alarming statistic indeed.

Yet all is not lost as groups like the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA) recently held its first Road Safety Summit in Davao City.

The event, which took place at the TESDA-KorPhil Training Center in Tibungco, Davao City, was organized to teach riders the proper behavior while on two wheels.

Some 500 riders joined the discussion, thinking up ways to educate their fellow riders on how to stay safe on the road.

MDPPA, a group that is comprised of the four top motorcycle manufacturers in the country, namely, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and Yamaha, is keen on sending a message that safety must always come first.

The Summit is only the start of a series of activities that will hopefully inculcate this aspect in the minds of all who ride on two wheels.

And with the growing number of motorcycle owners out there, it is a must to let them know that their, as well as other people’s lives are at stake here.

Here’s hoping that the message is conveyed and that every motorcycle rider put these reminders into action every time they get on their bike.

Just saying.
