Black Badge—a new breed of Rolls-Royce Motor Car that is aimed at an individual who is not afraid to do things differently, take risks, and achieve success by thinking outside of the proverbial box.
First seen at the Geneva Motor Show in 2016, the Bespoke line has been rendered in models such as the Wraith and Dawn, among others.
Now, the folks from Goodwood, West Sussex have placed the same bold treatment on its newest offering, the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Cullinan.
Built to go Effortless, Everywhere, the Rolls-Royce of SUVs, the Cullinan, is for those folks who seek adventure yet likewise go for the finest things in life.
With its all black treatment, the Black Badge Cullinan takes this adventurous spirit a step further by adding a certain individuality into the mix.
While all Rolls-Royce motor cars can be tailor-made or commissioned to Bespoke specifications, the Black Badge Cullinan that is presented to the world comes in several layers of rich black paint. This gives it a special luster that reflects both its dark and elegant demeanor.
Apart from the paintwork, the Spirit of Ecstasy, Infinity lemniscate, and Double R symbols are likewise done up in black, including the mascot’s mounting plates—the first ever in a Rolls-Royce.
About the only brightwork one will see are the Red brake calipers that symbolize the heat and intensity of these stoppers.
Step inside the luxurious interior and you’ll get a whiff of the fine leather and veneer that envelops the cabin.
While this is nothing new for any Rolls, what is in this Black Badge is the Technical Carbon Veneer. This piece of masterful craftsmanship took all of 21 days, with six coats of lacquer and a stringent inspection process to be deemed worthy of being part of a Rolls-Royce motor car.
Then there is the Forge Yellow leather that is part of the Viewing Suite and Recreation Module that make this one even more unique.
And of course, details like the Strlight headliner with its 1,344 optical lights, the Red tipped needles on the clock and instrument dials, and other fine touches all speak of the kind of luxury only Rolls-Royce cars possess.
As this is a Black Badge, the Goodwood engineers didn’t fail to beef up the Architecture of Luxury to handle the added power from the 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12.
Now putting out 600hp and 900Nm of torque, the motor has been complemented by a reinforced chassis, brakes, and transmission that can not only cocoon the vehicle’s occupants in a cloud-like Magic Carpet ride but be more dynamic out on the open road.
And with its go anywhere capability, the new Cullinan can take them off the beaten path—this time with a style all its own.
The new Black Badge Cullinan is now ready for commissioning by the Bespoke design team at the Home of Rolls-Royce.
