It’s no secret that the Philippines has close diplomatic ties with South Korea. Now, the two countries’ relations just got an boost as our very own Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) forged new partnerships and agreements with its Korean counterpart.

This took place in scenic Jeju Island in Korea, where EVAP attended the recently concluded International Electric Vehicle Expo. Here, our electric vehicle delegation even had its own booth, showcasing the latest technologies we have to offer in the area of green mobility.

Apart from this, the Philippine delegation, which was led by EVAP President Rommel Juan of PhUV Inc., VP Edmond Araga of Kea Industrial and Yvonne Castro of Bemac Electric Transport. They were joined by Department of Trade and Industry and the Board of investment representatives Asec. Fita Aldaba and in-charge of promotions Ms. Jean Traballo..

The EVAP booth also hosted business-to-business meetings between our countrymen and their various counterparts from the region. This was also the venue where the first-ever ASEAN Electric and Hybrid Vehicles Summit was promoted. The Philippine will be hosting the said event, which will take place on June 29-30, 2017.The main highlight of the affair, however, was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between EVAP and its Korean equivalent, International Electric Vehicle Expo Organization, led by Chairman Kim of the Global Electric Vehicle Network.

Under the said agreement, Korea will identify various components such as batteries, motors, controllers, and the like, that can be supplied for use in a prototype EV for use in the Philippines.  This will help boost efforts to have a mass-produced EV real soon.

Jeju Island is the ideal place to hold such a summit and sign an agreement, as it is touted as South Korea’s Green Island. In fact, it plans to have 100% electric vehicle usage by the year 2030.
