The Volkswagen Golf just got a facelift a couple of weeks back. The updated model now gets more powerful motors as well as a wealth of safety and tech features. Now, it is the turn of its electric counterpart to get  a boost in power and goodies. Volkswagen presents the 2017 e-Golf at Automobility LA.

The latest electric Golf receives a more potent lithium-ion battery that now has a 35.8kw/h energy capacity. This results in an increased driving range of up to 200kms on a single charge. Speaking of charging, the new on-board 7.2kw charger makes it possible to top-up in less than six hours. Those that need quick refills can use the Fast Charger that enables the battery to hit 80% charge within an hour using a standard DC Fast Chjarger.

Under the hood of the upgraded e-Golf is a more potent 134hp electric motor that now has 290Nm of torque. This allows the car to sprint from 0-100kph in 9.6 seconds and hit a top speed of 150kph.

Just like its gasoline counterpart, the new e-Golf also gets a host of cool tech toys for both the driver and passengers   The 12.3-inch Active Display, for instance, gives all pertinent driving and vehicle data at a glance—including what’s going on with the electric drive system. Then there’s the available Discover Pro infotainment system that puts entertainment and connectivity within a cool 9.2-inch touchscreen. It will even have Gesture Control down the line, while offering cool features like Volkswagen Car-Net, a remote access system that lets drivers control various car functions from their smartphone.

Of course, top-notch safety systems come with the new e-Golf. These include Forward Collison Warning with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Pedestrian Monitoring, Adaptive Cruise Control, and many others. It’s both a green and safe car.

And that’s the cool thing about the new e-Golf. You get style, decent power, and environment-friendly motoring. And of course, the legendary Golf name comes standard.
