The Mitsubishi Montero Sport has been one of the most popular vehicles around. The previous generation took the fight to the perennial sales leader and even took the lead. With the new model, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) wants to further establish its market share by introducing a more affordable variant to the range: the Mitsubishi Montero Sport GLX M/T.
From the outside, it possesses the same sleek and futuristic looks of the latest Montero Sport, with its projector halogen headlamps with daytime running lights, the attractive front-end “Dynamic Shield” design, and the other styling cues that make it look like a concept car in production guise. And it even boasts of stylish 18-inch alloys, just like its higher-end siblings.
The cabin, too, has the features that one will get in the other Montero Sport offerings. All-power features, window switch illumination, multimedia entertainment system automatic climate control system, and the like. It’s practical luxury at its best.
What sets the new Montero Sport variant apart is the slick-shifting six-speed manual transmission that’s mated to the vaunted 4N15 2.4-liter Clean Diesel four-cylinder motor with MIVEC variable valve timing. Putting out the same 181hp and 430Nm, the row-it-yourself gearbox brings out the most from this potent yet economical mill. And being a two-wheel drive offering, it is lighter as there is no all-wheel drive mechanism to lug around.
The new Mitsubishi Montero Sport GLX M/T has an introductory price of P1.28 million.
