The Ford Mustang has always been considered as an icon, especially in places like the drag strip. The car’s more than 50-year history has witnessed an evolution in terms of power and overall improvements in driving dynamics. Now, Ford gives us what it claims to be the most powerful Mustang to date.
The fastest Mustang GT—the 2018 model—boasts of more powerful motors and some real cool goodies to boot. The 5.0-liter V8 now features dual-fuel high pressure direct injection and low pressure port fuel injection. What this essentially does is provide improved low-end grunt and increased high-speed performance.
The more potent lump is paired with a class-leading 10-speed automatic transmission and a cool new Drag Strip drive mode. The two tech wonders combine to eliminate those irritating power drops that usually occur when shifting gears. Drag Strip Mode, in particular, keeps the engine constantly on the boil as you move up the gears and pick up speed.
With 460hp and 569Nm—a jump from the current model’s 435hp and 542Nm--, the new Mustang is capable of dismissing the 0-100kph run in less than 4 seconds.
Folks who aren’t too keen on that massive V8 mil yet still want gobs of power can opt for the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. This number puts out 310hp and 474Nm of torque. That’s a 40Nm increase over current EcoBoost motors. This translates to a more-than-respectable 0-100kph time of less than 5 ticks.
The new Ford Mustang will hit US showrooms in the fourth quarter of this year.
