The recently held Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) 2017 was a showcase of the latest cars and accessories in the market. Apart from this, MIAS 2017 was likewise a venue for companies to show off their most cutting-edge technologies. One of these firms was Volvo Philippines, which not only flaunted its newest vehicles, the S90 and XC90, but the tech that goes into each of their cars as well.
The Drive-E range of motors, for instance, utilizes modular architecture to enable Volvo to build a wide variety of gasoline and diesel mills from a basic engine block and design. Moreover, these motors exhibit both efficiency and various power outputs simply by things like bolt-on modifications or the like.
One distinct example of such an engine is the PowerPulse diesel. Drawing air from an air filter and feeding it into a pressurized two-liter tank enables the motor to provide instantaneous response that belies its turbocharged design. This is likewise ensured by the said tank always being topped up with air—helping to avoid turbo lag.
With all the technology built into today’s cars, Volvo believes that such gadgets and innovations need not be complex and daunting. This is why it has Sensus—the easy to use interface for infotainment and connectivity that keeps the driver informed of what’s going on with his vehicle, along with allowing him to connect with the outside world while in the car.
It uses gadgets like the signature 9-inch portrait style display, as seen in the latest 90-Series models. This controls everything from music, vehicle info and functions, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto mobile device pairing and mirroring. It is intuitive and simple to operate. Moreover, this, together with the head-up display, keeps drivers informed in a safe manner—just as Volvo intended.
Speaking of safety, it’s always been a given that Volvos are one of the safest vehicles in the world. The Intellisafe suite of safety kit features stuff like City Safety, which is essentially a vehicle collision avoidance technology, has been a part of Volvo for almost a decade now. It has been given an update with the ability to recognize large animals and pedestrians.
Besides this, Volvo has put in stuff like Braking in Intersections into the new 90-Series models. As the name suggests, it automatically brakes when it detects that it is coming to a crossing and the driver is not taking any action to slow down. Then there is Run-Off Road Mitigation that helps steer the car back on track if it detects that it has strayed from its path.
All the nifty innovations are just part of Volvo’s commitment to a safer world for all, where it envisions that no one will be killed or seriously injured in a Volvo by the year 2020. Get to know more of this at your friendly Volvo Philippines dealer.
