Audi is no stranger to science-fiction movies. The German premium carmaker has appeared in a number of moves as the vehicle of choice of the main character. Now, the four-ringed badge is set to star in yet another flick, this time even doing a bit of space exploration.
Audi and Twentieth Century Fox team up for Alien Covenant, the latest installment of the hit Alien franchise. The latest release stars Amy Seimetz as Farris, one of the crew members of the colony ship Covenant, which finds itself in what it thinks is paradise . Located in a remote planet in the far side of the galaxy, the place turns out to a nightmare waiting to happen.
Making its film debut is Audi’s Lunar Quattro. Developed together with German startup Part Time Scientists, the Lunar Quattro will be an integral part of the film as it helps the crew navigate their way in and around the remote planet. The Quattro all-wheel drive technology proves useful in tricky, even uncharted terrain.
Weighing just 30kg, the Audi Lunar Quattro is made of 85% aluminum that has been 3D metal printed at the Audi headquarters in Ingolstadt. It is powered by either solar energy via the solar panels integrated into the vehicle, or by Quattro electric drive, just like the latest e tron quattro.
And don’t think that this baby is simply for the silver screen. Since 2015, Audi and Part Time Scientists have been hard at work developing the vehicle, preparing it for its very first actual space mission—on the Moon. Expect to see the Audi Lunar quattro land on the Moon real soon.
