Nissan Philippines, Inc. (NPI) launched a handful of new models to kick start its 2018 calendar. These included the new Patrol Royal, the Juke N Style, the Urvan S Premium, and the monstrous GT-R NISMO. But there’s one more vehicle included the party that night… the updated Nissan Navara pickup.

At first glance, the Navara projects exterior and interior designs that are almost exactly the same as the previous model. However, it does have a minor facelift, that being the slightly-redesigned grille to keep it fresh.

While that minimal, almost unnoticeable update may come as a bit of a let-down for some people with higher expectations, Nissan makes it up by fitting the new Navara with its cool suite of tech called Intelligent Mobility. This safety and driver assist system, which was first seen in the 2018 X-Trail, comes with features such as Around View Monitor, Moving Object Detection, and Blind Spot Monitoring, among others.

The Around View Monitor helps the driver keep tabs on the surrounding area for easier navigation, especially on tight parking spaces. This works via cameras and sensors placed around the vehicle. A 360-degree top view display of the vehicle is then fed on to the LCD infotainment system.

The Moving Object Detection, on the other hand, warns the driver of any signs of movement around the vehcile (i.e. people, animals, or other cars) to prevent accidents. Meanwhile, the Blind Spot Monitoring system alerts the driver of approaching vehicles or people from hard-to-see areas like the right-rear part. This is helpful when changing lanes under bad weather conditions.

As with the previous model, the new Navara is motivated by a 2.5L inline 4-cylinder diesel engine that’s mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic transmission. The engine can also be had in 2 performance grades; a 163 hp version that makes 403 Nm of torque and a more powerful 190 hp kind with 450 Nm on tap. Likewise, options to choose between 4x2 or 4x4 variants are still available.

NPI has not released an official selling price for the Nissan Navara with Intelligent Mobility. But the company confirms a price announcement soon.
