While we have a slew of estate cars (known to most folks as station wagons) out in the market, many folks still see such offerings as family-oriented. In other words, they are better off driving Ms. Daisy on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Mercedes-AMG, however, thinks otherwise, as its very own E63 S 4MATC+ Estate broke lap records at no less than the Green Hell—the Nurburgring Nordshleife.
The Performance Wagon, as it is now fondly called, set a fastest time of 7:45.19 minutes on what it touted to be the world’s most demanding race track. The feat was done by German automotive magazine Sport Auto.
The fastest lap record for an estate car may be a feat in itself. Yet Mercedes-AMG is hardly surprised as it developed the car at the very same track. This is where the 612 horses produced by the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 were bred. This is also where the suspension was tuned to provide a balance of sporty handling and supple ride comfort. And the best part is, you can carry anywhere from 640 to 1,820 liters of cargo and your family in total comfort.
So, still think station wagons are stodgy?
