As more people opt for Sport Utility Vehicles these days, it’s no secret that these offerings are getting smaller by the model introduction. Nameplates like the Ford EcoSport. Nissan Juke, Chevrolet Trax, Mitsubishi ASX, and Mazda CX-3 come to mind.
While the segment may seem over-crowded, it seems that there is always room for one more. This new entrant comes in the form of the newly-launched, fourth-generation Suzuki Vitara. The Vitara isn’t exactly a new player, as most car enthusiasts will note. In fact, it has been around for almost 30 years.
Yet for all its appeal and longevity, the Vitara somehow took the larger route, opting to compete in the compact SUV class during its second and third iterations. Suzuki, however, chose to go back to basics and downsize its erstwhile SUV and make it slug it out in the hotly-contested subcompact SUV class.
While the new Vitara may be smaller in almost every dimension, its look remains stylishly rugged. The sweptback headlights, two-slat grille, and muscular fenders all give it a simple yet striking presence. One can even order their top-spec GLX variant in two-tone colors to make it stand out from the subcompact SUV crowd.
