It’s a good four years old now. In automotive years, that is practically a whole life cycle.
In Audi’s case, it’s about time for current-generation Q7 to receive a facelift. In typical Audi fashion, however, the changes are more than just cosmetic.
Sure, the grille, LED Matrix headlights, and a few other touches may be new. So are the revised air inlets and rear taillights.
The changes continue onto the interior with a pair of large touchscreens that offer both heptic and acoustic feedback. The aforementioned Digital Operating System complements other goodies like an air quality monitor, four-zone airconditioning, and power-assisted soft closing door, just to name a few.
The biggest change, however, has to be the mild hybrid technology that will come standard across the range. Whichever engine one chooses, it will come with a 48-volt electric motor powered by a bolt alternator starter. The energy it produces is stored in a lithium-ion battery and can be used to assist the internal combustion engine for more efficient fuel consumption.
All Q7s will come with an 8-speed Tiptronic and quattro all-wheel drive. In addition, four-wheel steering makes driving a lot safer and more pleasurable despite the vehicle’s slightly larger dimensions.
This being an Audi, safety tech is part of the package. Adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and emergency assist are just some of the systems offered to keep everyone safe. The last bit predicts what’s ahead and will even stop the car and prepare occupants when danger is detected.
Expect to see the facelifted Audi Q7 hit the scene next year.
