German luxury carmaker BMW, through its official local distributor SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp., recently pulled the wraps off its first ever model of the X7. Touted as the “President of the X Series”, the X7 is the largest Sports Activity Vehicle or SAV the brand has ever produced. As such, it sets sharp sights on the likes of the Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GLA Class, and the Volvo XC90 to name a few.

On the outside, the X7 flaunts the brand’s new take on its signature front end. This is highlighted by a more robust kidney grille that befits the vehicle’s sheer size. This new design change on the grille has taken quite a controversy among car enthusiasts, but nonetheless, it does fit the car well. On both flanks of the grill reside a pair of LED lasterlight headlights that illuminate up to 600 meters of road ahead.

In profile, the X7 takes on a traditional boxy silhouette, but it levels up a notch by flaunting notable details such as distinct character lines, large windows, long roof line, a set of 21-inch light-alloy wheels, and high ground clearance. Then there’s the rear end. This section is endowed with style and convenience features such as slim LED tail lights, well-rounded bumpers, and a 2-section tail gate that allows loading of stuff with more ease.

Inside the X7 is a world of luxury, and it all starts with an all-leather interior which is made out of quality hide that BMW refers to as its “BMW Individual Extended Leather Trim “Merino” Upholstery”. Complementing this top-quality trim are such amenities as five-zone automatic climate control, the Ambient Air package, the Panorama glass roof Sky Lounge, CraftedClarity glass applications, Harman Kardon Surround Sound System, Rear-seat Entertainment Professional system, Luggage-compartment Package, and ambient lighting including the Welcome Light Carpet.

Within the driver’s line of sight is a full digital instrument display. Accenting this is a 12-inch LED head unit and infotainment system packed with features such as navigation, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB support. Best part is that this 7-seat SUV’s 2nd row passengers can enjoy 2 more 12-inch monitors mounted on the back of the front seats, each of which are loaded with the same features found on the head unit.

BMW Philippines offers just one variant of the X7, that being the X7 xDrive 30d. As such, this runs with a diesel-fueled 3.0L inline 6-cylinder TwinPower turbo motor that churns out 267 hp and 620 Nm of torque. This engine is meshed to an 8-speed automatic transmission that moves all four wheels via the brand’s xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system.

A wealth of safety features comes as standard. This includes 6 air bags, anti-lock brakes, dynamic stability and traction controls for optimum handling no matter the road condition, hill-descent control, and active protection that tightens the seatbelts in an event of imminent collision.

The BMW X7 xDrive30d is now available at P9,290,000. It comes with a 5-year, 200,000-kilometer manufacturer’s warranty.
