Evidently, true talent sometimes runs in the family. One such family in focus is the Schumacher family, to which the legendary 7-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher came from. But on this article, it isn’t Michael who’s taking the spotlight as his son, Mick Schumacher, is on the move to follow the footsteps of his dad in the racing world.

Case in point, the 20 year old was recently enlisted into the Ferrari Driver Academy. As an idea, the Ferrari Driver Academy or FDA is basically a training school created by Ferrari to hone its would-be champions not just in F1, but also in F2, F3, F4, among others.

According to Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Minotto, they’ve picked and signed a contract with Mick not just because of his racing lineage, but most importantly because he has shown incredible talent and professionalism despite his young age. Binotto’s statement holds strong bearing as Mick has proven his mettle last year when he dominated the 2018 FIA Formula 3 European Championship.

Under the FDA, Mick, together with fellow students Giuliano Alesi and Callum Ilott, will train in preparation for their Formula 2 Championship debut this year. The FDA will also be training Marcus Armstrong and Robert Shwartzman to race in the 2019 Formula 3 Championship, Enzo Fittipaldi in preparation for the 2019 Formula Regional (Europe), and Gianluca Petecof in FIA Formula 4 2019 (Italy and Germany).

“I am thrilled that Ferrari has entered a partnership with me and my next future in motorsport will be in red, being part of the Ferrari Driver Academy and also of the Scuderia Ferrari Family. Again, this is another step forward in the right direction, and I can only profit from the immense amount of expertise bundled there. Be sure I will make everything to extract whatever helps me achieve my dream, racing in Formula 1. It is more than obvious that Ferrari has a big place in my heart since I was born and also in the hearts of our family, so I am delighted on a personal level about this opportunity as well. At this stage it is however also time to say thank you to my family, friends and partners who supported me all along and helped me arrive at this point,” shared Mick Schumacher.
