A few weeks back, Nissan Philippines Inc. broke the hearts of many folks as it announced that it would be ending production of its legendary Patrol Super Safari. This was especially true for off-road enthusiasts and those that loved the legendary capabilities this rig is known for.
Yet even as a long-standing thirty-eight year era comes to a close, many can bask in fond memories they had with their beloved rugged Nissan. Take Christopher Walsh as an example. While he may have been doing off-road treks since he was a kid, he never doubted that he would get out of that torrential rain-drenched relief mission in Dona Remedios, Bulacan last December unscathed.
Thanks to his trusty two and a half year old Patrol Super Safari, he and his friends and family members braved through those floods and tricky conditions easily. The Australian gentleman even considered this as an extreme adventure and chalks it up as one of the most thrilling rides of his life.
Then there is James Ramos, who has had his War Hammer Patrol for some 10 years now. Yet while he is an active member of the Patrol Cub of the Philippines, he only went on his first off-road adventure two years ago. His first outing was an extreme one, in no less than Sapang Bato, with the steaming crater of Mt Pinatubo as a backdrop.
And it isn’t just the guys who love their Nissan Patrol Super Safari. Armie Esquivel is not your typical Patrol owner, much less one who ventures out into the great outdoors. She got a taste of her first off-road trek in 2016 with Patootsie, her ever faithful Patrol Super Safari. And what an adventure it was, she notes, as she had to cross a raging river that was so high it almost reached her rig’s headlights.
