Ford is no stranger to the subcompact crossover segment. In Europe, for instance, it has the EcoSport, as well as the Fiesta Active. Apparently, the Blue Oval brand thinks these aren’t enough so it now fields the new Puma.
If the name sounds familiar, it was the moniker of a small cope offered a few years back. Now, it returns as this en vogue crossover that shares a lot of its styling and underpinnings with the Fiesta. In this rendition, however, it is a bit rounder, while space inside is a bit larger compared to the subcompact hatchback.
There are even nifty seating and cargo area configurations to play with. This can increase load space to give those active lifestyle types the room they need. This is joined by tons of tech that include mssaging seats, along with the CoPilit 360 that is a semi-autonomous driving aid that works in stop-and-go traffic. Of course, the usual adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, and a 180-degree view rear camera are prt of the package.
The new Ford Puma will be powered by a 1.0-liter three-cylinder motor with EcoBoost technology. It is paired with a 48-volt electric mill that makes it a mild hybrid. This makes for either 123hp or an even more potent 153 horses. All Pumas will be front-wheel drive only.
Available in either Titanium or ST Line, the Ford Puma will only be sold in the European market. Whether it makes it to our part of the world remains to be seen.
