Remember the Honda Insight?  The car nuts among you may recall that this model was first seen as a quirky three-door back in 1999, meant to signal the brand’s intent to enter the world of hybrid vehicles. Since then, it has morphed into a five-door sedan for the mainstream market. Honda now reveals a more stylish, third-generation iteration at the North American International Auto show in Detroit.

Taking styling cues from the likes of the 10th-generation Honda Civic, the new hybrid is decidedly more stylish and upscale. Light emitting diode (LED) headlamps and taillights, a swoopy roof, and creases all make for a premium vibe.

Inside, it’s typical Honda, with the usual high-quality fit and finished, enhanced by perforated leather, a 7-inch driver info display, and an 8-inch center infotainment touchscreen interface. Needless to say, gadget connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto ccme with the package.

What sets the Insight apart from most other Hondas is the two-motor hybrid system. This one utilizes a 1.5-liter Atkinson’s cycle gas engine paired with an electric mil. It can operate on electric-mode only, or use the electric motor as a power assist mechanism. Honda claims that fuel economy will be at par with most other offerings in the market.

The Honda Insight will also come standard with Honda Sensing, which includes goodies like Honda LaneWatch, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low Speed Follow and Road Sign Recognition, and Road Departure Warning, among others.

The Honda Insight is jsut one part of Hoda's strategy to electrify two-thirds of its vehicle sales by the year 2030. The new Honda Insight will roll out into dealerships later this year.
