Remember the Honda Passport? Gearheads that used to read magazines like Car and Driver and Motor Trend back in the 1990s and early 2000s may be able to recognize the nameplate as a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo. Both these vehicles were sold in the US market.
After more than a decade-long hiatus, a news report by Automotive News reveals that Honda might just revive the Passport name for the 2019 model year. The said model will come in the form of a new crossover.
Those familiar with the Honda brand will note that the Japanese marque already has a slew of Sport Utility Vehicles and crossovers. The Pilot sits at the top of the heap, followed by the CR-V, and HR-V. But that’s just in the US, as it also has the likes of the BR-V in Asia and the soon-to-be-released WR-V in other parts of the world.
The Passport, Honda insiders say, will slot right between the Pilot and the CR-V. It will supposedly compete with the likes of the Ford Edge and Nissan Murano in the US, as well as the Mazda CX-8/CX-9. Aaprt from these, no other details have been disclosed as of press time.
The new Honda Passport could be unveiled as early as November of this year at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Sales are set to begin in 2019.
