As with anything else in the automotive industry, hot-selling nameplates like the midsize crossover, the Mercedes-Benz GLC,, need a bit of a nip-and-tuck to keep things interesting. Well, the German luxury carmaker does just that to its erstwhile offering, along with some cool tech and new engines to boot.

While the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC may look pretty much the same from the outside, detail changes like sleeker headlights that flank a more textured grille with fluted inserts now dominate the front fascia. There are likewise new air inserts down below, as well as revised foglight housings. The rear also receives new taillights and trapezoidal exhaust tips to replace the curved ones found on the current model.

On the inside, the biggest change is the addition of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience or  MBUX user interface. This one, just as in the ikes of the A-Class, helps control various vehicle functions via voice and other connectivity options. A wide digital display links the instrument cluster and infotainment system to the driver and passengers.

More importantly, new engines now reside under the sloping hood. There is the GLC 200 4Matic with 194hp, and the GLC300 4Matic with 255 horses. Both are gasoline-fed and come with a 48-volt electric motor, making these mild hybrids. There are also diesls: the GLC200d 4Matic with 161hp, the GLC220d 4Matic with 192hp, and the most potent GLC300d 4Matic with 241 horses on tap. All engines are mated to a 9G-tronic auto gearbox.

Apart from these, Merc has also thrown in goodies like DynamicBody Control that helps provide a smoother ride, as well as an Off-Road Engineering Package. This one adds Off-Road and Off-Road+ drive modes to the drive mode selector.

Expect the new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC to hit dealerships in the middle of the year. It will make its public debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show this March.
