It looks like Hyundai is really intent on carving its own niche in the performance car game. First was the i30 N, followed by the Veloster N. Now comes the i30 Fastback N, which was unveiled recently to cater to car enthusiasts that still want a practical yet fun daily driver.
Yes, the i30 Fastback N takes the i30 bits like the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 and 6-speed manual transmission and drops these in a more versatile yet stylish fastback body. This translates to more space for gear and passengers without sacrificing driving dynamics.
Buyers can choose between a 246hp or 271hp four-oot, both putting out 353Nm as well as an overboost of 378Nm of torque. The latter utilizes the Performance Package and allows the car to rocket from rest to the century mark in 6.1 seconds. The “regular” 2.0-liter turbo will do the same in 6.4 ticks. Both top out at 250kph.
Apart from straight line speed, Hyundai has thrown in a drive mode selector that lets drivers choose between five preset modes. One can toggle between Eco, Normal, Sport, N, and N Custom. The N Custom can be tweaked even further via a touchscreen, along with the Performance Package settings. Yes, this is driving fun for the practical set.
The Hyundai i30 Fastback N will make its public debut at this year’s Pris Motor Show next week.
