Audi fans are well aware that adding the letters RS to the equation can transform already tech-laden everyday road cars itnto all-out performance machines. Case in point is the latest-generation RS4 Avant.

Unveiled at the ongoing Frankfurt International Motor Show, the folks at Audi Sport have gotten their hands on the A4 Avant and transformed it into this ultra-fast driving tool. It is a step up from the already sporty S4 Avant, thanks to goodies like larger air intakes, carbon fiber weave on the door mirrors and rear diffuser, a rear spoiler, and ovoid exhaust pipes. Moreover, the exclusive Nogaro Blue paint scheme is a throwback to the original RS4 Avant of 1999.

Just like the 90 quattro IMSA GTO race car-inspired exterior, the cabin is a mix of Audi form and function mixed with RS flair. The cool Virtual Cockpit is complemented by a head-up display, as well as RS accents all around the interior. And this being a wagon, you can take the family and your gear without fuss.

Naturally, the RS badge means the RS4 Avant gets a potent mil. This comes in the form of a 2.9-liter bi-turbo that puts out 450hp and 600Nm of torque. Power is coursed to the standard 19-inch wheels (20-inchers optional) through an 8-sped tiptronic gearbox and quattro all-wheel drive.

All that juice allows the RS4 Avant to blast from 0-100kph in a sports car-like 4.1 seconds, before hitting an electronically-governed 250kph top speed. Terminal velocity can be increased even further to 280kph upon request.

The Audi RS4 Avant will be available to order beginning this quarter. Deliveries will commence at the start of 2018.
