With the rising trend of crossovers and SUVs in the local luxury department over the last few months, it’s not surprising that German carmaker Mercedes-Benz will not let itself be left behind. A strong evidence of this is the recent launch of the 2020 GLE-Class by Auto Nation Group (ANG), the official local importer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the country.

Mercedes-Benz claims that the new GLE is an “Instant head-turner.” This bold statement holds true with its sleeker, better-rounded body sculpture that brings out the car’s masculine and athletic vibe. In front is the brand’s new fascia design, comprising of a new grille flanked by a pair of wedge-shaped LED headlights with distinctive running lights for better road visibility at all times.

Highlighting the profile is a set of 21-inch alloy wheels, accented by blacked-out fender flairs and running boards. In back, Mercedes-Benz outfitted the GLE with redesigned tail lights that hg the quarter panels more for that smooth, harmonious statement.

Another thing worth noting is that the 2020 GLE is now a tad bigger than its predecessor in terms of dimensions, thanks largky to its increased wheelbase, around 80 mm more than the previous model. This translates to a 7-seat crossover with added head and leg room for the 2nd and 3rd row passengers.

Interior-wise, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE beckons passengers with a well-appointed cabin. The seats and some cabin panels get endowed with premium leather. On the other hand, bits and bobs of soft touch materials and gloss trims serve to set the “elegant mood” up on hight.

Of course like the recently launched B-Class, the new GLE also comes with that thing called Mercedes-Benz User Experience or MBUX. Basically, the MBUX is an infotainment suit that replaced the COMAND infotainment system. It’s got two 12.3” touch screens arranged side-by-side for an impressive wide-screen look – a highlight of the comprehensive touch control concept that combines the functionalities of the touch screen, a central console touch pad, and touch-control buttons on the steering wheel for less driver distraction and stress.

This high-tech party piece works its magic with a press of a button and a clear “Hey Mercedes” voice command by the driver. Doing so opens doors to an array of features such as navigation, entertainment, vehicle info, and more.

At the heart of the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE is a turbocharged 2.0L diesel engine that delivers 245 hp and 500 Nm of torque. This is governed by a 9-speed automatic gearbox that drives all 4 wheel via the Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. In addition, the powertrain also comes with an EQ Boost, or a system that gathers energy from braking and uses it to boost the engine performance as needed... kind of like a simple Kinetic Energy Recovery System or KERS found in Formula One cars.

For safety, the new GLE is loaded with features such as Blind Spot Assist, Active Brake Assist, and equipped with an advance 360-degree camera.

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE is now available in all Mercedes-Benz dealerships with a sticke price of P5,690,000.
