The Mercedes-Benz X-Class Gets Six-Cylinder Turbodiesel Power

Launched only last July, the Mercedes-Benz of pick-ups, the X-Class has slowly been building up its model line-up. The latest iteration of the Nissan Navara-based premium truck now adds a beefy six-cylinder turbodiesel to the mix in the form of the X350d.

The newest member of the X-Class family sports a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 that pumps out 258hp and a massive 550Nm of torque. This is enough to launch the truck from rest to 100kph in just 7.9 seconds and hit a 205kph top speed. As most folks won’t really care about acceleration times when driving a pick-up, Merc has deemed it wise to program the 7-speed automatic to send roughly 60% of torque to the rear wheels for better traction and stability.

Besides the rear-biased drive, the X-Class has a low-range reduction gear, rear differential lock, and 4Matic all-wheel drive with three driving modes and low-range transfer case. All this, along with a 600mm wading depth, the ability to climb a steep 45-degree gradient, and a 222mm ground clearance make it one capable pick-up that can tackle the most grueling off-road conditions (or in most cases, flooded urban streets).

Expect to see the Mercedes-Benz X350d go on sale in mid-2018. It will be on display at next week’s Geneva Motor Show.
