As many readers may know, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation is set to begin sales of the Xpander MPV this May. After months of taking in reservations, units will be delivered to eager customers within a few weeks. Proof of this is the ceremonial export launch from Mitsubishi’s Bekasi, Indonesia plant held recently.
No less than Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartartto attended the ceremonies. Also present were Mitsubishi Motor Corporation’s top executives who expressed their full support for the brand’s newest endeavor.
Since its debut in August of last year, the Mitsubishi Xpander has been Indonesia’s best-selling vehicle. To date, Mitsubishi dealers have delivered around 66,000 units. It has even garnered the prestigious Indonesian Car of the Year, given by leading automotive publication Otomotif.
With a production capacity of around 160,000 vehicles a year, the Bekasi facility currently puts together a large number of Xpander units for both domestic and export markets. Around 50% of total capacity has been dedicated to building the small MPV. And with exports set to begin first to the Philippines, followed by Thailand and Vietnam, Mitsubishi hopes to deliver around 30,000 units to export markets this year.
So yes, the Mitsubishi Xpnder is definitely headed for our shores.
