The Jaguar XJ has been considered as the brand’s flagship for nearly five decades now. Despite newer nameplates like the XF and the XE, the XJ will always hold a special place in the British luxury marque’s model range. And this year, it celebrates its 50th birthday with a special XJ50 Edition.
The special anniversary model boasts unique touches such as a black grille, special badging on the side vents and rear, Autobiography-style bumpers, and 20-inch alloy rims. Inside, more 50th anniversary touches can be found such as diamond quilted seats, XJ50 logos on the center armrest, XJ50 illuminated treadplates, as well as anodized shift paddles and pedals.
The stately sedan can be had in either gas or diesel variants, both displacing 3.0-liters. The gasoline version puts out 340hp while the oil burner produces 300 horses. Either way, buyers can choose between the standard or long wheelbase versions.
As mentioned earlier, the XJ has always held a special place in the Jaguar lineup. It was the last Jaguar sedan with inputs from company founder Sir William Lyons. Moreover, it has been the ride of choice of Heads of State, dignitaries, and yes, the Royal Family. Even Britain’s Prime Minister rides around in the XJ.
Apart from releasing the XJ50, Jaguar has likewise put together a short video showing the eight generations of the luxurious sedan. So sit back and travel down memory lane with the Jaguar XrJ.
