Nissan Motor Co. Ltd has slowly been putting its Intelligent Mobility systems into its models. Designed to provide Intelligent Power, Intelligent Driving, and Intelligent Integration with its surroundings, the system can be seen in models likes the newly-launched Nissan Leaf electric vehicle and even in small doses in everyday offerings like the X-Trail.
At this year’s 45th Tokyo Motor Show, however, Nissan lets us in on what the future holds for this groundbreaking technology. Embodied in the Nissan IMx Concept, Intelligent Mobility can be seen in how the car is posed to change our motoring lives forever.
The Intelligent Power system, for instance, utilizes a pair of high-output electric motors, one for the front and another for the rear axle. They combine to produce a total system output of 430hp and 700Nm of torque. This powers the crossover quietly and efficiently in a brisk and exhilarating manner. Plus, it is claimed that this system can run up to 600kms on a single charge.
Beyond providing efficient power, Intelligent Driving lets drivers choose their driving mode. The future version of Nissan’s vaunted ProPilot, which first saw daylight in models like the Nissan Serena and Leaf, can be switched to either drive or manual model. In drive mode, the cabin becomes a relaxing place, allowing passengers to enjoy the journey and simply sit back or get some work done. In manual mode, the driver gets full control, giving him the enjoyment of being behind the wheel.
And of course, Nissan believes that cars are in integral part of society. Intelligent Integration easily and seamlessly connects the car to the home, the power grid, and its surroundings. Even the design blends the car’s interior with its external environment and vice-versa. This lets occupants know what’s going on around them while still giving them that sense of security and privacy.
