We all know the Porsche Cayenne to be a fun-to-drive Sport Utility Vehicle. It actually puts the Sport into the equation by providing that Porsche driving experience mixed with a bit of practicality. But did you know that the Cayenne also has a conscience, a heart for the environment?
This can be seen in the new 2019 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid. As the name suggests, the new model combines a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 gasoline motor with an electric mill. When joined together, the 340hp petrol powerplant mixes with the 136hp electric lump to produce 462hp and 700Nm of torque. That’s good for a 0-100kph blast of just 5 seconds and a terminal velocity of 250kph.
A notable feature of the new Cayenne E-Hybrid is its ability to provide instant boost when called upon. A press of the accelerator in Sport or Sport Plus modes activates boost pressure by the electric motor—a la F1’s KERS—to give the driver added thrust.
That motivational force is sent to all four corners via 8-speed Tiptronic automatic and permanent all-wheel drive. The drivetrain also boasts of several driving modes that allow the driver to choose between sporty or ultra-efficient motoring. The latter will make for around 44kms of pure electric power—useful for in-town driving.
