The Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid gives you guilt-free, practical fun

We all know the Porsche Cayenne to be a fun-to-drive Sport Utility Vehicle. It actually puts the Sport into the equation by providing that Porsche driving experience mixed with a bit of practicality. But did you know that the Cayenne also has a conscience, a heart for the environment?

This can be seen in the new 2019 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid. As the name suggests, the new model combines a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 gasoline motor with an electric mill. When joined together, the 340hp petrol powerplant mixes with the 136hp electric lump to produce 462hp and 700Nm of torque. That’s good for a 0-100kph blast of just 5 seconds and a terminal velocity of 250kph.

A notable feature of the new Cayenne E-Hybrid is its ability to provide instant boost when called upon. A press of the accelerator in Sport or Sport Plus modes activates boost pressure by the electric motor—a la F1’s KERS—to give the driver added thrust.

That motivational force is sent to all four corners via 8-speed Tiptronic automatic and permanent all-wheel drive. The drivetrain also boasts of several driving modes that allow the driver to choose between sporty or ultra-efficient motoring. The latter will make for around 44kms of pure electric power—useful for in-town driving.

Once it’s time to charge, the standard 3.6kW charger plugged into a 230 volt outlet can top up the 14.1kWh battery in 7 hours and 48 minutes. Those that want a faster charge can opt for the 7.2kW charger that also plugs into a 230 volt outlet.. This one does the job in just 2 hours and 18 minutes.

Speaking of charging the battery, one can easily monitor this via the Porsche Connect smartphone app. The said app can likewise manipulate climate control functions remotely. Moreover, the app can help find a charging station using navigation and GPS mapping.

Other cool new features of the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid include massage function for the seats, heated windshield, head-up display, and 22-inch alloy wheels. It likewise has Acid Green brake calipers and accents in various parts fo the exterior and interior.

The Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid is now available to order—in Europe, that is. Other markets will follow within the year or early 2019.
