The Toyota 86 TRD Special Edition adds a bit more style and handling prowess

The Toyota 86 has always been considered a driver’s car. Sure, it may not exactly have loads of horsepower yet it definitely holds its own, especially in the corners. But what if Toyota were to improve on this handling even further? Wouldn’t that be a real treat?

This is what the Japanese carmaker did to the limited-run Toyota 86 TRD Special Edition. As the name suggests, this one gets a host of TRD goodies for the exterior, cabin, and underpinnings. There are new front bumpers, side slls, and rear diffuser. Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires wrap around the 18-inch wheels. To complete the look, the Raven Black paint job is enhanced by a tri-color graphic that runs from the edge of the front fender all the way to right above the door handle.

Inside is a sea of back and red. This can be seen in the steering wheel, dash, seats, and other places. The suede-like Granlux material adrons the top of the dash, with the red accents of course. And the TRD logo finishes things off in here.

Beyond the cosmetic changes, the new Toyota 86 TRD Special Edition gets upgrades like SACHS dampers for improved handling, Brembo brakes with four-piston calipers up front and two-piston units at the rear, and the aforementioned wheels and tires. It’s all meant to improve on an already capable package.

The Toyota 86 TRD Special Edition will go on sale next month in North American dealerships. Whether we will see it arrive in our shores remains to be seen, especially since only 1,418 examples will be built.
