The latest-generation Volkswagen Jetta and Golf GTS are known to be stylish vehicles. Yet riding on the famed Golf platform also means that they are likewise fun to drive. This is what the members of the Volkswagen Jetta Club Philippines and Volkswagen Golf GTS Sportwagen Pilipinas once again experienced in their latest fun run one fine Sunday morning.
Dubbed Fun Drive in the South, the fun ride-and-drive kicked off at the Volkswagen Bonifacio Global City dealership in Taguig and headed out to Pico de Loro Cove in Nasugbu, Batangas. Around 30 VW Jetta and Golf GTS units joined the event that allowed their owners to stretch their vehicles’ legs.
Passing through the stretches of the South Luzon Expressway, as well as the rolling hills of Cavite and Batangas enabled all the participants to experience the performance of the 2.0-liter turbocharged direct injection (TDI) four-cylinder diesel motor. Putting out 150hp and a class-leading 340Nm , this powerplant courses its motivation to the drive wheels via 6-speed DSG transmission.
Apart from the fun drive, each one also got a chance to take home some col prizes by joining the games and various activities organized during the event. And just as with every road trip, the journey is also part of the enjoyment. This is why the convoy took the time to stop at various spots along the way. This included the famous Parrot’s Beak summit of Mt. Pico de Loro.
While having fun was at the forefront, road safety was also a very important part of the trip. After all, this was a Volkswagen event with no less than Engineer Alberto Suansing of the Philippine Global Road Safety Partnership giving his insights on the topic. He stressed the importance of the person behind the wheel as being the vital link to road safety. A car like the Jetta or Golf GTS can have all the safety gear in the industry. But nothing beats an alert and responsible driver.
At the end of the day, everyone not only got a treat by taking their prized steeds out for some quality time on the open road. They likewise got the take in some of the most scenic spots down South. And they learned a thing or two about road safety from the experts. What more could one ask for?
