Readers who regularly follow the motoring beat may have been aware that Peugeot Philippines was set to bring in the latest-generation 3008 Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) earlier this year. While it may have taken a bit longer than everybody had hoped, it’s better to the late than never, they say. And it seems like it is worth the wait as the French carmaker is fielding the Peugeot 3008 GT Line.

Peugeot Philippines isn’t just launching a new model but is redefining the SUV, it says. Sure, it may look like a compact crossover from the outside. Yet details like the checkered grille, signature “feline” LED headlights, flared wheel arches filled with large wheels, long hood, black diamond roof with chrome highlights, and raised ground clearance of 219mm all combine to give it a confident stance.

Just like its exterior, the interior boasts of cool tech such as the iCockpit. This game-changing piece of kit features a large 12.3-inch instrument panel that is complemented by touchscreen displays and premium materials.

The highlight of the iCockpit, however, is the iCockpit Amplify, which changes the ambience and dynamics based on drive mode.  The iCockpit Amplify lets drivers choose between Boost and Relax modes. Either one switches things like vehicle dynamics, cabin lighting, passenger comfort, and even fragrance to suit the driving style.

Peugeot says that while the new 3008 GT Line may be larger than its predecessor, it is actually 100kg lighter. Thanks to the use of lightweight materials and various weight-saving measures, the vehicle is poised to be more nimble yet efficient at the same time.

Underpinned by the new Efficient Modular Platform, the lighter mass will be carried around by a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline motor that puts out 165hp and 240Nm. The low displacement, high-output motor promises brisk performance while still returning good numbers at the fuel pump.

Moreover, the European Car of the Year winner will be packed with goodies like electric parking brake, tire pressure monitor, rain-sensing wipers, Mirror Screen vehicle and infotainment interface and connectivity, and a whole suite of safety features.  All this will come at an SRP of P2,590,000.
