We get a glimpse of the new, fourth-generation Mazda3

It was only last November when Mazda revealed the fourth-generation Mazda3. Debuting at the L.A. Auto Show, the compact that came in both sedan and hatchback showed off a rounder and more svelte figure, as well as a host of drivetrain and safety tech.

Well, it looks like Mazda Philippines will soon be bringing in the latest Mazda3. This is based on the recent media preview that allowed members of the motoring press to take a closer look at the car’s new flanks. Taking its cue from the Kai Concept that was seen during the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show, the sedan and hatch boast of a rounder shape, especially at the rear.

Apart from the flowing lines, the car also gets sleeker styling touches  that are seen in the head- and taillights, fenders, and the like. The changes continue on the inside, with a simpler interior scheme vis-à-vis its immediate predecessor. What’s striking is the dash that’s highlighted by an 8.8-inch display that sits high up on the dash. It is still controlled by the Mazda Rotary controller that calls up various infotainment and vehicle functions.

Sitting on the new SkyActiv Vehicle Architecture, the new Mazda3 promises to be lighter yet more rigid, with better ride and handling to boot. No specs have been given as of press time, however, but we’re quite sure that it will be motivated by an improved version of the company’s current crop of SkyActiv-G engines and transmissions. The big question on everyone’s mind is whether the tech-savvy SkyActiv-X variable compression gasoline motor will make it’s way under the hood of the Philippine-sepc Mazda3.

This, together with pricing and other queries will be answered when Mazda Philippines brings in the new fourth-gen Mazda3 within the year. Stay tuned for that one.
