Porsche has been harping about its upcoming Mission E pure electric sports car for quite some time now. While most folks may think that this is merely a concept that may never happen, the German sports car maker is dead serious about bringing this thing to market. it is so serious, in fact, that it will even allow you to experience the electric sports car in augmented reality using your mobile device.
The Porsche Mission E Augmented Reality app will let users experience the car for themselves—albeit in augmented form. One can set the Mission E in a room or any place they wish. Aerodynamic efficiency, as well as battery usage and drivetrain operation can even be seen using the animation and X-Ray modes, respectively. And of course, a virtual test drive is possible to get a “feel” of being behind the tiller.
This is Porsche’s way of giving enthusiasts a glimpse of the future here and now. The Mission E, Porsche says, is scheduled for market launch by the end of the decade. While it may be a purely electric vehicle, it will still be a Porsche and will provide driving pleasure akin to its gasoline-powered forbearers like the iconic 911. Ths one, however, will be friendly to the planet.
The Porsche Mission E Augmented Reality app is available to download on Google Play or the App Store. It is compatible with Augmented Reality-enabled smartphones.
