As almost every auto manufacturer these days puts forward its plans for an electric-powered offering for the near future, Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation springs into action by launching the Fuso eCanter light duty truck.

Touted as the world’s first all-electric light duty truck, the Fuso eCanter will not only be seeing daylight on the world’s roads. It has likewise become the newest member of the UPS delivery truck fleet. The US-based package and parcel delivery service took delivery of three brand new e-Canter trucks recently.

Apart from UPS, a non-profit organization from New York will also receive 5 units of the eCanter. First seen around a year ago at the Frankfurt Commercial Vehicle Show, the Fuso eCanter is powered by a permanent synchronous electric motor putting out 250hp and 380Nm of torque. It is combined with six high-voltage batteries with 420V and 13.8kwh.

The setup, Fuso says, can go up to 100kms on a single charge. Charinging can be done quickly, with 80 percent capacity being reached in about an hour while full charge can be achieved in 7 or so hours. As for the truck, it can haul up to three and a half tons.

Mitsubishi Fuso reveals that it plans to deliver around 500 units of the truck to various markets around the world. And both entities utilizing the eCanter proves that green vehicles are truly viable and not just show pieces at a motor show.
