The Hyundai brand may be a household name in the automotive industry. Hyundai vehicles have grown in popularity over the past decades, and continue to thrive on its way to becoming one of the leaders in the field. But did you know that the Korean auto giant also has a social arm?
Yes, Hyundai, through the HARI Foundation Inc, has actually been partnering with organizations like Gawad Kalinga for some 10 years now. The former recently joined the latter during the 4th Social Business Summit, held at the Hyundai Center for Green Innovation in Angat, Bulacan. No less then Hyundai Asia Resources Inc (HARI) Foundation Inc President Ma Fe Perez-Agudo addressed around 700 participants during the Plenary Session.
In her speech, Ms Agudo touched on how one should find their sense of purpose. This will then allow them to grow their work in order to benefit both themselves and society as a whole. And this, she says, is what drives HARI and GK to do what they do—to strive in their respective fields for the betterment of their clients and the world around them. She even noted that the Hyundai Center for Green Innovation symbolizes this—a haven for environmental stewardship as a pillar to building sustainable communities.
The fourth staging of the summit revolved around the theme: “Social Market: Disruption for Shared Prosperity Now”. To stress this point, various GK partners from the private sector shared their experiences in building markets for growth, matching the government’s own efforts for peace and development.
Also on hand to impart his own experiences and inspirational knowledge was Don, son of Ms Fe and co-founder of Taguyod Bayan Foundation Inc. Founded in 2013, this organization aims to build “disaster-resilient” communities, particularly in areas prone to natural calamities.
With both mother and son doing their share, it looks like Hyundai will soon be a name to remember when it comes to social responsibility.
