Peugeot Philippines has successfully held its first PPTI (Peugeot Philippines Tennis Invitational) last March 10 to 12 at the Valle Verde Country Club. A total of 192 novice and professional players took the challenge in what was a very exciting weekend of fun, on-court action.

In review, the PPTI is the evolution of the Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open 2015-2016. What differentiated PPTI from the previous tournament is the inclusion of players from different tennis clubs nationwide. This move was made to level up the challenge, inspire more tennis aficionados to love the sport, and promote camaraderie among players of varying skill levels.

The PPTI is comprised of 3 divisions; the Men’s Doubles (for players 40 to 49 years old), a second Men’s Doubles (for players 50 years old and above), and the Women’s Doubles (for players 40 years old and above).

The first division victory went to team New Capitol Estate’s Engr. Eddie Ventura and Atty. Jason Demetri Benitez who ruled the championship match with a score of 6-2 and 6-1.

Meanwhile in the second division, Jacinto “Jackie” Tomacruz III and Rolando Oliquino of team Hillsborough-Lhuillier dominated with a straight win in 2 sets (6-1 and 6-2).

Finally in the third division, team Hillsborough-Lhuillier did it again with Michelle Mendoza and Ching Henson beating the competition in an action-packed tiebreak 6-7 (7-4), 6-4, 10-3.

All division winners have each earned an all-expense-paid trip to Paris France to watch this year’s Roland Garros (French Open) which will happen in June. In addition, they’ve also been given a privilege of going to the Peugeot Avenue, the French carmaker’s flagship lifestyle store.

As show of courtesy, Peugeot Philippine gave 2 more passes for the live viewing of the 2017 French Open. These went to lucky winners Manolo Fernandez and Naresh Ramnani of team Valle Verde Country Club.

In conclusion, Peugeot Philippine President Glen Dasig took center stage and delivered a surprising announcement. A second edition of the Peugeot Philippines Tennis Invitational is in the works and is pegged to be green and go this October. Best part is that the winners will get a chance to watch the Australian Open in January 2018.
