The 10th generation Honda Civic has been around for over a year now. And it has been doing quite well, especially in our market where it was introduced in April of this year.
But as good as the new model is, enthusiasts would pine for the hot Type R variant. In true Honda fashion, the newest model’s Type R prototype makes its North American debut at this year’s Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The new-gen Civic’s swoopy exterior is enhanced by a winged carbon fiber splitter, red accent line, slatted ducts with mesh inserts that adorn the front fascia. What really catches the eye, however, is the prominent red H badge that sits proudly on that cool grille, along with the air intakes on the hood—with hood scoop to boot.
The centrally-placed opening hints at what lies under that bonnet. The smoked LED headlamps ad to the visual statement that this car wants to make. The side, meanwhile, boasts of carbon fiber sills, flanked by piano black alloy wheels with the famous red accents. The rear is accentuated by a carbon fiber diffuser that hides three tailpipes—the center one finished in bright metallic red. Finally, roof-mounted vortex generators give the car a truly sporty touch.
While the car will be joined by the likes of the Civic Hatchback, and various iterations of the Civic Coupe, it is the Honda Civic Type R Prototype that everyone is waiting for. It will make its official world premiere sometime next year.
