It’s the Hyundai Sonata’s Turn to Get a Refresh

The past few weeks have been a busy time at Hyundai Motor. The South Korean auto giant recently unveiled the next-generation Hyundai Accent, as well as the sleek i30 Wagon. And now, the flagship Sonata executive sedan gets a few tweaks that give it a more upscale vibe.

The front end is the most evident new feature of the facelifted 2017 Sonata. The grille is lower and is tied in with the new Hyundai family face. The look, which is inspired by a Korean celadon vase, blends nicely with the slim headlights, vertical daytime running lights, and new foglamp assembly.

The side likewise gets more chrome trim for an increased sense of opulence. The look is capped off by the rear end with a license plate holder that has been moved to the bumper for a bit extra style. The Hyundai badge even hides the trunk release button, just like some of the cool cars in the business.

Inside, the cabin flaunts new piano lacquer accents, a 7-inch touchscreen, a sporty three-spoke steering wheel, and more premium touches. The Turbo model even adds a flat-bottom tiller, while an 8-inch Visual Navigation system is optional for all variants. Of course, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality are part of the package.

Powered by a range of engines, including a potent pair of turbocharged mills in either 1.6- or 2.0-liter displacements, the updated Hyundai Sonata now come with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It likewise boasts of class-leading safety tech like Lane Keep with Lane Departure Warning, along with High Beam Assist functions, among others. All these make for a fun-to-drive yet safe sedan.

The 2017 Hyundai Sonata will be available by the middle of the year.
