The latest 10th-generation Honda Civic is arguably one of the hottest-looking cars on the market today. Its low-slung profile with curves in all the right palces give it a sporty edge that most other compacts can only dream of. Yet admittedly, most car nuts would always pine for an even sportier version, such as its hatchback variant.

Well, fans of the versatile yet sporty hatch living in the ASEAN region, more specifically Thailand, have reason to rejoice as Honda Automobile Thailand Co. Ltd has just unveiled the 10th-gen’s hatchback offering in that market. Possessing the same cool cues like the C-shaped LED headlights with daytime running lights, black mesh grille, windswept side profile, and C-shaped rear lamps, the Civic Hatchback flaunts a striking character with its more cohesive  and sporty hatch design.

The sexy rear end doesn’t just look good; it actually adds a bit of cargo flexibility. Honda pegs total hauling volume of 414L with the 60/40 rear split-folding seats up. Fold the seatbacks and retractable cargo cover to maximize the carrying capacity. Naturally, cool toys like the 7-inch touchscreen, Remote Engine Start, and eye-catching meter cluster, among others, are also part of the mix.

The Honda Civic Hatchback will be motivated by the same 1.5-liter DOHC VTEC Turbo four-cylinder fitted on the RS Turbo. Developing 173hp at 5,500rpm and 220Nm from 1,700-5,500rpm, the mill boasts the power of a larger 2.4-liter lump with the efficiency of a small engine. The sole transmission is Honda’s CVT, which, together with the powerplant, were both conceived using the brand’s Earth Dreams technology.

Just like its sedan sibling, the Civic Hatchback gets a whole gamut of safety kit. Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold, Rearview Camera, Vehicle Stability Control, Emergency Stop Signal, and a slew of SRS airbags, are just some of the things that protect occupants and other road users.

The Honda Civic Hatchback will hit Thai showrooms beginning March 21, 2017.
