Mercedes-Maybach Goes Topless With the S650 Cabriolet

Maybach, a name synonymous with luxury limousines,  has just gone topless with the release of the new limited edition Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet at this year’s Los Angeles International Auto Show.

The new open-top four-seater, which traces its roots to the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 that recently debuted in Paris, and the Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet, offers the ultimate in luxury motoring to those that desire such opulence yet can’t do without the wind in their hair. The exterior is dominated by the sloping sidewall line that drops toward the rear, along with the coupe-like soft-top. Another cool touch is the Mercedes-Maybach logo being illuminated onto the pavement from the mirror housings upon opening the door.

The wide door openings reveal an interior that’s very similar to the Concept S-Class of 2013. This is apparent in the waterfall-like seat perforations that give the cabin some visual flair. More flowing lines can be seen on various parts of the interior, such as the soft top lining and wood veneers, which can also be ordered in high gloss instead, if so chosen. This comes in an exclusive Designo Nut Brown Magnolia finish. Naturally, Mercedes-Maybach logos are embroidered on embossed on the seats, and even on the storage cover.

Each of the 300 Mercedes-Maybach S650 cabriolets sold will get its very own set of ultra-exclusive Maybach—Icons of Luxury travel luggage set. The Affinity package includes two large travel bags and two lifestyle cases, each made of original vehicle leather. They even match the Cabriolet’s interior color scheme.

Powering the Mercedes-Maybach S650 is likewise the ultimate in powerplants: a 6.0-liter biturbo V12 that packs 630hp and a staggering 1,000Nm, sent to the rear wheels via 7G-Tronic gearbox. This allows the shapely open-top to sprint from rest to 100kph in a scant 4.1 seconds and cruise all the way to a governed top speed of 250kph. Plus, the Airmatic suspension with variable damping control makes this car a canyon carver that promises to ride on a cloud each and every time.

Every unit of the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet also comes with two unique items—a car cover and welcome pack. The former is made with diamond quilting, embroidered Maybach logo and lettering, and matches the soft top’s color. The latter, on the other hand, consists of a special key ring made from the same nappa leather used in the vehicle matching the interior shade, and bearing the Maybach emblem and “1 of 300” lettering. The other cool piece is a certificate of ownership that is signed by no less than Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.

As mentioned above, the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet will only be offered in a limited quantity of 300 copies. Each one is available for 300,000 euros and will be delivered beginning in  the 2nd quarter of 2017.
