The Mercedes-Benz E-Class has always been considered a stately midsize saloon. Yet true Merc enthusiasts know that this car also has a sporty side—one that isn’t your Lolo’s typical Benz. This is the E-Class in AMG guise.
And with the newest generation of the E-Class out, it is but natural that the AMG model follows. The new E63 4Matic+ and E63 S 4Matic+ are the latest addition to the line. They aren’t just all-new’ they are likewise the most powerful to date.
While both cars employ the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo, direct-injection V8 motor, the E63 4Matic+ gives out 571hp and 750Nm. That’s enough to propel it to 100 from rest in just 3.5 seconds. Mated to the new AMG Speedshift MCT nine-speed sports transmission and AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive system, it offers brisk pace while still putting comfort at the top of its priorities.
Those executives that want a bit more fun can go all out with the E63 S 4Matic+ with an even more potent version of the 4.0-liter V8 lump. This one puts out 612hp and a stomp-pulling 850Nm, making for a 3.4-second 0-100kph sprint. Moreover, the AMG Performance 4Matic+ system adds Drift Mode for a bit of sideways fun.
Moreover, the new E63 4Matic+ and E63 S 4Matic+ also feature AMG Cylinder Management—a smart way to save fuel while still delivering optimum performance. When the driver selects comfort mode, for instance, a few of the cylinder are cut off to save gas. And yes, drivers can choose from different modes via AMG Dynamic Select to suit their driving style—whether Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus, or Individual.. Plus, there is even a more simplified RaceStart setup that makes performance driving a cinch.
Besides having a more powerful engine, the car likewise has the looks to match. The hood, for instance, is now set atop the wings and bumper—just like a sports car—as well as louvers to help cooling, again taken from motor racing. At the rear, the car gets a discreet yet functional lip spoiler, diffuser, and twin exhausts.
This being a Mercedes-AMG, comfort still comes standard inside the luxurious cabin. Top quality materials, the latest tech for connectivity and infotainment, and all the safety gear are standard or optional. There is even a Track Pace app that complements the Race Timer. These allow drivers to monitor their performance on and off the track, as well as analyze data to help improve their times. A special Edition 1 model will be released on November 16 to mark the car’s world premiere. Orders will begin on 16th of January 2017 while official deliveries will take place in March of 2017.
