When the Genesis brand first set out over a year ago, it seemed to bring forth an air of sophisticated luxury that wanted to rival the likes of Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Lexus. And it still does, with models like the G90 and G80. But now, Hyundai’s premium marque also wants to do battle in the hotly-contested sport sedan arena with its newest offering, the Genesis G80 3.3T Sport.
As the name suggests, this car is powered by a 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 motor tht puts out a healthy 365hp. Paired with a sport-tuned version of the eight-speed automatic gearbox, this combo promises dynamic performance, thanks in part to new shift-by-wire technology. Add to this a Continuous Damping system for the suspension and you seem to have a corner carver in the making, coupled with a supple ride.
Despite its sporty aspirations, the Genesis G80 3.3T Sport pampers its occupants with a leather-lined interior with leather sport seats and steering wheel. There are even copper accents for that upscale vibe. Of course, Genesis didn’t leave out goodies like a 9.2-inch touchscreen controlling infotainment and vehicle functions, a multi-view camera, a Lexicon 17-speaker sound system with QuantumLogic surround sound and Clari-Fi music technology, and a wireless device charger, just to name a few.
The outside is just as premium with the copper accents, a cool pair of LED headlamps, dark chrome trim, and 19-inch alloy wheels. The car can even be had in two distinct colors: Polar Ice and Sevilla Red.
Naturally, it comes with a suite of safety tech like Lane Keep assist, Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Haptic Steering Wheel, and Smart Cruise Control, just to name a few.
The Genesis G80 3.3T Sport joins the G80 3.8 and G80 5.0 and adds a bit of sportiness to the lineup. It will go on sale in the US and other markets in the 2nd quarter of 2017.
