If you’re a child of the 1970s and 1980s, chances are you know and even revered cars like K.I.TT. from the hit television series Knight Rider, as well as the white Ferrari Testarosa from Miami Vice. And now, if you’re lucky enough, you can even be the proud owner of the Prancing Horse.
Barret-Jackson is helping to auction off what is probably the most iconic Ferrari of modern pop culture. Those who know their 80s TV and culture are aware that this Testarosa was the Miami Vice car used by no less than Sonny Crockett and Rico Tubbs in the series of the same name.
The white 1986 Ferrari Testarosa, with Lot Number 1426, has the original VIN ZFFSA17AXG0063631, as well as 16,500 original miles on the odometer. Finished in white with tan interior, it packs a 4.9-liter, 390hp V12 motor with a five-speed manual gearbox. Don’t let the year model fool you, though, as this car boasts a whole lot of modern conveniences like power windows, locks, seats, airconditioning, and cruise control.
What makes it stand out, however, are the details that show how colorful its life has been. The original title from Universal Studios, service records from Ferrari North America (which includes the engine-out service records), factory blueprints, Miami Vice Universal Studios bumper plaque, and the City pf Miami windshield permit are all proof of its celebrity status.
The car has likewise led an adventurous life, from the time it was delivered in 1986, up until it was retired in 1989 when the show ended. Since then, it has been in storage til around 2015. And now, it is looking for a new home, and hopefully, a loving owner. Whoever that person is will surely be one lucky chap.
