BMW fans know that putting the letters M and CS in one sentence equates to the ultimate in driving pleasure. The BMW 3.0 CS is a cult classic as it is one of those cars that helped establish the brand as a true driver’s car. And now, the German carmaker unveils yet another combination of M and CS in the new BMW M4 CS.
Built by M GmbH, the new model sits between the BMW M4 Competition Package and BMW M4 GTS and sets the tone for a new hierarchy in the M division. Packing a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-6, the performance-oriented coupe puts out 460hp—up by 10 horses over the Competition Package’s already potent mill. Thanks to goodies like high-precision injectors and charge air coolers, the car can sprint from 0-100kph in just 3.9 seconds before barreling all the way to a 280kph top speed.
Fitted with a 7-speed M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) with Drivelogic, the M4 CS lets drivers choose to cruise in full auto mode or shift gears manually via shift paddles. One can also toggle between Comfort, Sport, and Sport+ and utilize the full potential of Dynamic Stability Control with M Dynamic Mode and Active M Differential. All these help bring out the best of the M4 CS both on the road and track.
Staying true to the sporty and lightweight character of the CS moniker, BMW M has fitted the M4 CS with weight-saving materials such as hood and roof made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), along with door panels utilizing compacted materials and pull loop-type handles. Don’t fret, though, as BMW hasn’t forgotten to add a bit of luxury in the form of leather and Alcantara upholstery. Everything is finished off by grippy and chic Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires.
