We’ve seen the Mazda MX-5 being driven around leisurely, often with the top down for the full effect. The Miata Club Philippines also paraded their rides and gave Binibining Pilipinas beauties a lift during their annual parade a few weeks back. But of course, the little roadster is truly at home on the track. And this is what the club did recently as it held the first two rounds of the 2017 Mazda Miata Cup at the Clark Speedway in Pampanga last May 12th.
The 4.2km racetrack played host to 17 MX-5 that stretched their legs and demonstrated the superior handling prowess that has been a hallmark of the car for the past four generations. The competition was not just a showcase of the car’s remarkable capabilities, but was likewise a venue for drivers to show off their mettle behind the wheel.
The Mazda Miata Cup has run five different classes, all based on the drivers’ various skill levels. Yet each one brings out the best in the participants, while improving their skills at the helm. It will also be run in conjunction with the Clubman Racing Series.
After the Clark race, the Mazda Miata Cup will move on to the Batangas Racing Circuit on July 16 and October 15. It will then head back to Clark on November 19.
