A few months after the launch of the all-new, latest-generation Suzuki Swift, it’s its sedan sibling’s turn to take the spotlight. Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the Japanese carmaker’s Indian subsidiary, recently took the covers off the Suzuki Dzire.

The new Dzire shares its sporty front end with its Swift hatchback twin. From the B-pillar rearwards, however, the car gets a look all its own—that of a four-door sedan. The rear section, Suzuki says, is designed to provide better head- and legroom for backsat passengers.  Both Dzire and Swift will utlize the brand’s HEARTECT global platform and meet stringent safety satndards.

The latest Suzuki Dzire will be powered by either a 1.2-liter gasoline or 1.3-liter diesel motor. Each of these engines can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic gearbox. While the car will be sold in markets like the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America, Suzuki notes that the subcompact sedan is the best-selling nameplate in India, accounting for some 1.4 million units.

The Suzuki Dzire will begin sales in India, with other markets following soon.
