The Honda Jazz has been wowing the world for three generations with its amazing fuel economy and equally spectacular versatility. Not only can the little hatchback go further on a tank of gas, but it can carry a load of stuff, thanks to its flexible ULT seats and large interior. And you’ve got driving fun to boot.
Now, Honda gives the Jazz even more flexibility as it unveils the Jazz Sport Hybrid, which made its world premiere at the Carlist.my MAA Drive, Test, and Buy event in Setia Alam, Malaysia. The Lunar Silver Jazz, which looks like the regular gas-powered model from the outside, hides a few extras under the skin.
The Honda Jazz Sport Hybrid i-DCD is powered by a 1.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder motor with the brand’s vaunted i-VTEC variable valve timing and lift electronic control system. This is combined with an integrated High Power Motor that gives added boost when accelerating. In true hybrid fashion, the motor can run independently in Electric Vehicle (EV) mode, adding to the already superior fuel economy.
Thanks to the combined motors, the Jazz Sport Hybrid i-DCD generates a total system output of 137hp—equivalent to that of a 1.8-liter mill. This, Honda claims, is what gives it the Sport in its moniker. All that juice is sent to the drive wheels via 7-speed dual clutch gearbox.
This being a Jazz, Honda hasn’t left out the ULTRa seats. The rear seats allow owners to choose from four different modes—Utility, Long, Tall, and Refresh modes. Each one is designed to help carry various types of cargo and lets passengers enjoy and make the most of their little Jazz.
The Honda Jazz Sport Hybrid i-DCD will hit the Malaysian market in the second quarter of this year. Sales will begin in Q3.
