This Proves That the Porsche 911 GT2 RS is the Most Powerful and Fastest 911 Thus Far

Last June, Porsche unveiled what is arguably the most powerful 911 to date—the GT2 RS. Revealed at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, the 911 GT2 RS packs a 3.6-liter bi-turbo flat-6 that puts out a heady 700hp and 750Nm of torque, allowing it to blast from 0-100kph in just 2.8 seconds and reach a 340kph top speed.

Porsche recently put its money where its mouth is as it broke a speed record for road approved cars at no less than the Nurburgring Nordschleife.  The Porsche raced its way around the 20.6km track in a blistering 6 minutes and 47.3 seconds last September 20, 2017.

Porsche admits that its original goal was to create a 911 that could tackle the Green Hell in less than 7 minutes and 5 seconds. So you can just imagine everyone’s elation when the lap time expectations were exceed by a huge margin.

And we’re not talking about a one-time thing. Two Porsche 911 GT2 RS units were driven by two different test drivers around the track just to see how fast the race-ready icon can go. At the end of five laps each, they both shattered the previous record for road-approved cars (6:52.01) by hitting a 6 minute, 50 second average time and an average speed of 184.11kph.

With a full tank of gas and Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tires, the two 911 GT2 RS were driven by Nick Tandy from the UK, who had just flown in from an endurance race in Austin, Texas, and Lars Kern from Germany, who knows the Ring by heart as he regularly competes in the VLN Endurance Championship, as well as the Carrera Cup Australia. In the end, it was Kern who set the record lap.
