Around two weeks ago, we gave you the lowdown on what the most fuel efficient gasoline-powered vehicle of 2017 is, according to the recent Department of Energy Fuel Eco Run. That car, the Kia Picanto 1.2L GT-Line, returned an impressive 29.23km/L, besting a field of 26 other gas-powered models.
Now, it’s the diesel-fed contenders’ turn to be revealed. This year’s winner is the Mini Cooper D Countryman, which consumed a miserly 30.64km/L. This little Mini crossover is powered by a 2.0-liter TwinPower turbo diesel mill with 150hp and 330Nm of torque.
Just like their gasoline-fueled counterparts, the oil-burners, composed of SUVs, sedans, pickups, and the like, started off from the Petron Station in Clark, Pampanga. They then headed out to SCTEX, TPLEX, and ended up in Binalonan, Pangasinan. Here, they turned back en route to Petron in Clark to check just how much fuel was consumed.
The roughly 216km run proved not just how fuel efficient Mini’s diesel Countryman is, but also showed off its ride comfort and handling. Needless to say, people got a treat just by looking at its iconic profile, even from afar.
