For some 70 years now, Porsche has been about some of the sportiest models in the business. There are the 928, the 944, the 718 Boxster, and of course, the iconic 911. But marketing forces dictate that such vehicles as the Porsche Macan make up most of the sales.
That’s not a bad thing, mind you. Porsche has touted this compact sport ute as the sports car of compact SUVs. And for good reason. The looks and performance still possess the Porsche DNA—albeit with five doors and five seats.
To celebrate 70 years of Porsche heritage, Porsche Philippines rolls out the Macan Sport. This model takes the already sporty SUV and adds goodies like 20-inch RS design alloy rims that give it an even more distinct appearance, a sports steering wheel taken straight from the 918 Spyder, and control layout that only the German sports car maker can configure.
Beyond the looks, the Porsche Macan Sport delivers perforrnance that is both usable and engaging at the same time. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder motor delivers 252hp, transferring power to the drive wheels via 7-speed PDK gearbox. Weighing in at just 1,770kg, the SUV can blast from rest to the century mark in just 6.7 seconds before hitting a 229kph top speed. And Porsche even claims that it will sip fuel to the tune of 13.9km/L.
Of course, we all know that it’s not just about numbers. It’s about how this car performs on the move—never mind that it’s a small SUV. Thanks to goodies like adaptive dampers with self-leveling function, the Porsche Active Suspension Management ensures that you can drive at the limits of adhesion while still returning a comfortable ride when the wife and kids are on board. And thanks to Porsche Stability Management, you can drive with total confidence. (within the limits of physics, of course)
