Grab Philippines once again finds itself in the thick of controversy as the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) ordered the ride-sharing service to pay a hefty penalty and reimburse riders who were charged with a P2 per minute travel charge.

Dated July 9, 2018, the LTFRB ordered Grab Philippines to pay a P10 million fine and pay back the P2 per minute fare imposed on riders from June 5, 2017 to April 19, 2018. The said rebate will be executed via fare rebates on future trips for riders who booked their rides during the said period. It will, however¸ only be in effect for 20 days after Grab PH implements it or upon finalization of the said penalties.

The said penalties come at the heels of a complaint filed by Congressman Jericho Nograles regarding Grab’s illegally charging riders the said P2 per minute travel fare.
